Tony: |
Don't tell me you're studying
on Saturday night! Come on, give yourself a break. |
 |
Sally: |
Don't get me wrong. I'm not the
kind of star student that always works on her school work. I
just feel like staying home and enjoying some quiet time with
my telly. |
 |
Tony: |
Give me a break! That's ridiculous
to spend a beautiful Saturday night with a old silly television!
Let's go out and have some fun. |
 |
Sally: |
Not even "wild horses"
could drag me away from my silly telly tonight. Do you know
that they are going to air the final episode
of "Life is Beautiful" at ten o'clock this evening?
I would regret it for the rest of my life if I missed the final
episode. |
 |
Tony: |
Do you want me to bring along
a box of tissue in case your tears
stream down like the Yellow River? |
 |
Sally: |
That's a very sweet suggestion
but I've got some right beside me now. If you'd like to come
you're welcome to join me, but promise you won't keep rabbiting
when the program is on. It's really very irritating
to hear people either talking nonsense or making funny noises
when your heart is melting with the story. Silence is the only
language allowed tonight. |
 |
Tony: |
You want me to be a dummy
in front of a TV set. Not me! My biggest TV entertainment is
giving comments on how silly people act in the dramas. What
fun! |
 |
Sally: |
What a pain in the neck! You'll
never be a kindred spirit with
me. Please stay away from my house tonight. Don't come over
to spoil my evening! |
 |
Tony: |
Be sensible, Sally! I am trying
to rescue you from falling into the trap of those far-fetched
melodramas. I can't believe you would allow yourself to become
addicted to that kind of morbid
and gloomy garbage! Get out and live your life! |
 |
Sally: |
You are not only a man short
of imagination but you also lack a romantic heart. Don't you
think it's interesting to watch how people live their lives?
|
 |
Tony: |
Of course I do. But that kind
drama is not a realistic portrayal of life. It only offers escapism
which is no inspiration at all. I especially can't stand those
kind of tearjerker stories. They
just make me want to throw up. |
 |
Sally: |
Isn't Shakespeare's famous play,
"Romeo and Juliet," a tragic drama of love and romance?
How come nobody gossips him for writing tearjerker stories?
|
 |
Tony: |
But that's different. A tragedy
like "Romeo and Juliet" helps the audience cleanse
their soul and ponder the meaning of life. Besides, it's written
by Shakespeare. |
 |
Sally: |
That soul-cleansing and life-pondering
stuff is not true for every audience. Have you heard someone
say that watching Shakespeare's plays is like going to see a
dentist? I'm shivering all over! Besides, a good story is a
story that touches your heart. Who cares if it is written by
a famous author or not! |
 |
Tony: |
Do you know what I'm going to
do? I'm going to write to the TV station to ask them to honor
you as one of their most faithful viewers. |
 |
Sally: |
If it suits you, you're welcome
to do anything you like. Just remember not to come near my house
tonight or Mr. Puppy will have a different way of saying hello
to you!! |
