Sleeping
Beauty

|
|
Once
upon a time
there lived a King
and Queen. It was a happy day
because they were celebrating
their daughter's first birthday. All the good
fairies
were invited
to the party. Each fairy presented
a gift to the princess and wished the princess happiness,
beauty and love.
Suddenly,
the room was filled with black smoke. In walked a mean
and angry fairy because she was not invited to the party.

|
"I
am going to cast
a spell on the princess. She will prick
herself on a needle and die!" shouted the angry fairy.
The
Queen was very upset. When the angry fairy had left, one of
the good fairies changed
the spell. "She will prick her finger and fall asleep and she
will wake up if she is kissed by a prince," said the good fairy.

The
King immediately
got rid of all
the needles in the country. The beautiful princess lived a happy life.
On her eighteenth birthday, she found a hidden door in the castle.
She opened it up and found an old lady sewing.
"That
looks like fun. What are you doing?" asked the princess. She had never
seen anyone sew before because the King did not
allow people
to have needles. |
 |
|
"I
am sewing a dress. Would you like to try?" asked the old
lady.

The princess took
the needle in her hand and she pricked herself. At that moment, the
entire castle - including the animals - fell asleep.
The King, the Queen, the princess and everyone in the castle slept
for one hundred years. During that time, overgrown trees and weeds
hid the castle. |
One
day a prince was lost and he saw the thick woods. He
used his sword to cut through
the trees and weed. The prince was surprised to discover
that there was a castle in the middle of the woods.

|
The prince opened
the door and found everyone asleep. He walked
around the castle and saw the sleeping princess. She was the
most beautiful princess he had ever seen. |
|
|
The prince
held her hand and kissed it softly. At
that moment the princess and the
rest of the castle woke up. The princess said, "You have
been in my dreams for one hundred years. I am glad you came
today."
The princess brought the prince to her parents and they
were soon married. The prince and the princess lived
happily ever after.
